Insurance Definitions

The following explanations are for the purposes of clarification of the various insurance products sold by FlySafair. The final and official definitions for these products are included in the actual policy wording. Important Definitions

These insurance policies make specific mention of different categories of goods. These definitions are covered in the policy wording, but in brief, here are some of the basics.

Device(s) - these are things like audio/video equipment (including radios, cassette/compact disc players, iPods, mp3 and mp4 players, camcorders, DVD, video, televisions and other similar audio and video equipment), mobile phones, satellite navigation equipment, computers and computer equipment (including PDAs, personal organisers, laptops, notebooks, iPads and the like), computer game equipment (including consoles, games and peripherals).

  • Customers who elect to take our Travel Protection are covered for these items up to a value of R2500 with an excess of R250.
  • Cover for these items is not included in our Baggage Cover policy and the airline will accept no liability for these items for uninsured customers.

Personal Belongings - this refers to personal articles other than business equipment, devices (as defined above), valuables and money. For example, the following items will be considered to be 'Personal Belongings':

    • Clothes
    • Toiletries
    • Shoes
    • Your actual suitcase
    • Luggage tags
    • Books
    • Musical Instruments
  • Customers who take our Baggage Insurance cover are covered for these items for up to R10 000, with an excess of R250 per claim, with no claim for a single item exceeding R2000.
  • Cover for these items is not included in our Travel Protection Policy and the airline will accept a limited liability for these items for uninsured customers.

Valuables - this refers to items such as contact or corneal lenses, sunglasses, prescription glasses or spectacles, cameras and other photographic equipment, telescopes and binoculars, wallets, jewellery, watches, furs, precious and semi-precious stones and articles made of or containing gold, silver or other precious metals.

  • Customers who take out our Travel Protection Cover are insured for up to R2 500 on these items, with an excess of R250 per item claimed, with a maximum claim of R1000 for each item.
  • Cover for these items is not included in our Baggage Cover policy and the airline will accept no liability for these items for uninsured customers.

Suitcases No cover Cover up to R10,000, with an excess of R250 per item and a maximum claim of R2,000 per item. Airline accepts limited liability for severe damage, which excludes scratches and scuffs, damaged handles, wheels, zips or clasps.
Spectacles, reading glasses, sunglasses. Cover of up to R2,500, with an excess of R250 and a maximum claim of R1,000 per item. No cover Airline accepts no liability for these items
Rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings Cover of up to R2,500, with an excess of R250 and a maximum claim of R1,000 per item. No cover Airline accepts no liability for these items
