About Mauritius
Mauritius, is what paradise is to many. This Indian Ocean island, known for its beaches, lagoons and reefs is located in East Africa which is 2 (two) hours ahead of us.
Situated approximately 2400 kilometres off the South East Coast of Africa, the island covers an area of Africa, the island covers an area of 1,865 square kilometres or 720 square miles, with 330 kilometres of coastline.
Mauritius' strict health protocols have been recognised as some of the best in the world. They have one of the highest vaccination rates and their tourism staff have been made a priority throughout the rollout.
Entry Requirements
Required Travel Documents
- A passport that is valid for the period of intended of stay and has 2 blank pages. Non-South African citizens will also require a visa.
- Infants and children under 18 years of age require both a passport and unabridged birth certificate for travel, additionally a letter of consent (Affidavit) is required when an infant or child under 18 years of age is traveling with one (1) single parent.
Visa Eligibility Criteria
- A passport that is valid for the period of intended of stay and has 2 blank pages.
- A valid return or onward ticket to the country of residence.
- A confirmed booking of accomodation.
- Enough funds to meet the costs of stay.
- A pledge not to engage in any profit-making activities.
Mauritius Entry Requirements
- As from the 1st of July 2022, regardless of vaccination status, travellers do not need to present a negative PCR test before flying to Mauritius.
- It is recommended to to have health insurance and a vaccination card.
- Wearing masks during the flight is mandatory for entry into Mauritius.
- Any person having tested Covid-19 positive within 7 days of departure shall not be allowed to board a flight to Mauritius.
- Wearing of masks are not mandatory in Mauritius, with exception at the airport and other ports of entry, public transports, hospitals and clinics.

Mauritian Currency, Cuisine and Languages
The Mauritian rupee is the currency of Mauritius.
The Mauritians method of cooking is influenced by its cultural diversity and its tropical location. The cuisine is a mixture of African, Chinese, European and Indian influnces.
Local food differs according to each ethnic community, reflecting the strong traditional, cultural, and historical influences of each community.
Mauritian Creole is spoken by the majority of the population and is considered the native language of the country. It is a French-based reole due to its lose ties with the French pronunciation and vocabulary. English and French are accepted as the official languages, as court business and government administration are conducted in that language.
